ADDING INSULT TO INJURY.

Date added: Sunday 16th November 2008 written by David Godfrey

It was announced last week the Ministry of Defence will close two medical units to save cash and improve "efficiency". I am appalled and disgusted by the actions of this Government and the MOD.

This is a complete slap in the face for our servicemen and it is going to hit them tremendously.

Those of our troops with serious injuries rely on the expert care of therapists at the centres who nurse them back to health.

I say "These rehabilitation centres are absolutely vital." and this announcement is a complete contradiction to the cause of Operation Braveheart. To hear of such closures is bad enough but to be told this in the wake of Remembrance Sunday is downright disgusting.

The Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Colchester, Essex — home of 16 Air Assault Brigade — is going to be closed. A second unit at Aldergrove, near Belfast, Northern Ireland, is also going. A new centre, to be built in South Wales, has only been "recommended for consideration."

"What is our Government remembering? What are they doing to help our soldiers? Where is the care for our servicemen who are the ones put on the front line for the Government's so-called ideals.

The Government has now got itself into such a state they are now clutching at straws — and they have made one cutback too many where the servicemen of this country are concerned.
